To be clear, this book is not for e-commerce businesses that sell products or services for money straight off the site. (The basics are the same for any kind of website. It’s just that an e-commerce site is an advanced application that requires additional steps like online payments, pricing options, etc. which I don’t cover.)
What sort of website will you learn to build?
You will learn to build a 5-page website with the following pages:
- A content-rich Home page
- An About page that has text and images about you or your company
- A Contact page so people can reach you
- A Services or Products page that displays your business offerings, both in text and supporting images
- A blog page (optional) – if you want one for your website
With the knowledge gained, you can build for yourself (with confidence!) any number of extra pages as you see fit. Like, say, a Testimonials page, a Page for each of your services or products, a Team page, a Projects or Work page to showcase your finished projects, etc.
You will create a common header at the top of each page (including the navigation menu) and a common footer at the bottom of each page. You will have a solid, fully functional website at the end of it.
What should you already know to get the best out of this book?
Frankly, nothing much. I start pretty much from scratch and take you the whole way.
If you know nothing about WordPress, invest an hour a day or so in the book for about a week or 10 days. There are lots of moving parts to building a site, though each one is easy in itself. Take it in tiny bits each session and it will all fall into place. This is a step-by-step guide for a good reason.
No prior technical knowledge is needed.
WordPress was created for use by non-coders. So you will learn no coding in the book – it’s not needed. It’s drag-and-drop all the way! Simple as that.
And Elementor was created for non-designers. So, don’t worry if you are not a web designer. The software will do the heavy lifting for us.
You will need a desktop or laptop, though. PC or Mac is fine. You can’t learn this stuff on a phone.
